WORKSHOPS1-07 Engaging Parents in the Life of the Parish and School How do we get parents, who are stretched by overlapping demands, interested and involved in the faith formation of their children? This session will explore obstacles to involvement and how teachers, catechists, and pastoral and catechetical leaders can engage parents in the life and work of the parish and school. In addition, we will look at how to support the efforts of parents to enkindle the light of faith in their children within the home.
4-08 Catechizing with Symbols, Rituals, and Stories The use of symbols and rituals for holidays and family events convey stories about who we are and what we cherish. Liturgical education – one of the six tasks of catechesis - is an opportunity for making a potent connection between what families routinely do as part of these celebrations and how faith is passed on in our parish communities. Come and find out how to make this connection as a way to strengthen and enhance your catechetical/school plans and programs.
6-07 Seeking Spiritual Balance in Off-Kilter Times Sometimes life feels like a three-ring circus. As catechists, teachers, and pastoral leaders, we can find ourselves teetering on a tightrope that is strung between chaotic activity and daily regimens. Being off balance leaves us weary, depressed, and longing for a bit of time on the sidelines. This makes it all the more essential to withdraw on a regular basis for prayer, reflection, and rest in order to maintain a sense of spiritual and emotional well-being. In this session, we will examine the importance of integrating Sabbath time into our life and work, and name strategies for doing so on a daily basis.
